Another day in virtual conference at American Fisheries Society, so another fishy sketch. This time my trip to R and Fishbase gave me a random pull of Trachypoma macracanthus aka the Pacific Rockcod or Toadstool Groper (what a name!). This Serranid (groupers and fairy basslets) lives in tropical and sub tropical waters around australia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. It is predominantly a benthic species spending its time among rocky reefs, corals and sponges, it reaches sizes to 22cm ( ~8inches).
