Working with the National Shellfish Association, I developed a set of playing cards featuring molluscan shellfish. Each suit and rank was carefully planned out, with the higher ranks being organisms of higher ecological or sociological importance. Each card contains facts about the animal, such as range, habitat, and interesting facts (the text block). Symbols indicate the animal's feeding mode, whether they are edible or commercially important, their reproduction - dioecious (separate genders) or hermaphroditic, conservation status, and if they are dangerous to humans (toxic, stinger, etc.). Proceeds from the sale of the decks went to help fund undergraduate and graduate students to present at the annual National Shellfish Association Conference (helping offset hotel and travel costs etc.).
Unfortunately, no decks are left, so I may have to do another printing.
